Client: Stellar Party People

Website design and development for SME

Who are they?

Bristol based Stellar Party were the first company to begin manufacturing sparklers in the UK, back in the 1930’s. Nowadays they manufacture a range of specialist party products that include sparklers, ice fountains, candles and party cannons. With such a rich heritage, the company is extremely proud of its in-house technical knowledge in pyrotechnics (their senior management team are all qualified chemists). Their customer base includes John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco, the MOD, as well as a host of independents.

What were we asked to do?

Stellar approached us to redesign their website from scratch. The aim was to capture the party vibe of their products, whilst maintaining a slick professional feel, indicative of a B2B website. The company also planned to sell its products through the website so ecommerce functionality was required as part of the build.

What were the challenges?

Designing a fully functioning branded website from scratch always comes with its own design challenges. Maintaining a balance between the fun and exciting nature of the product and the weighty technical expertise of the company was a fine line to tread.

We decided to put the products centre stage and sent our very own lead designer over to the company’s factory to set up a professional photoshoot. By being able to offer this additional service in-house we were able to keep a handle on the overall design process and capture exactly the kind of images we needed

The website itself was built using a highly customisable WordPress CMS, meaning that the client can easily add more content to the site, such as new product lines, as and when they want. The ecommerce system was set up using Woo Commerce.

What was the outcome?

By maintaining a clean line of communication using the TeamWork project management platform, the client was able to give feedback on individual aspects of the development process as it progressed. The finished article struck a perfect balance between information rich and image driven design, with a robust ecommerce system ready to go. Suffice to say the client was very happy.
